Summary: AWEFULL
Comment: I was very excited about this purchase until I tried this truffle.
These were horrible. Maybe I got the worst bottle they have ever sold and I just happened to get them. But, these are bad. If you want to eat the root of a dirty old root of a tree, you will enjoy these. If you doubt my credibility of my review, please feel free to read my other reviews. Please don't waste your money. My wife tried these and couldn't even believe these could be called truffles.

Summary: what truffle?
Comment: There was absolutly no scent or flavor to this.When I brought home truffles from Aosta in Italy they were wonderful and cost less. These were worthless.

Comment: Had no taste and after the heat of the dish it was on turned them to a leathery tecture. Better off buying the high price truffles.

Comment: I don't know truffles well enough to speak to the quality of these, but I can say that the jar they come in is a definite detriment to the product. The jar doesn't have a screw-top, but rather a cap something like a beer bottle cap. It has to be pried off -- which is difficult because a standard bottle opener doesn't quite fit -- and it can't be resealed after it's opened. So you either need some alternate container, or you need to use up all your truffles in one "go."
I hope the importer will get on the phone to France and tell them invest a few centimes in some screw-top jars.

Black winter truffles are far superior to their summer cousins. There is a long pause between the time a truffle reaches full size and the time when it fully matures. Summer truffles are less flavorful since they are dug up before the full maturation period is reached in the winter months. You will always pay more for black winter truffles. Connoisseurs prize them.
