Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing gadget -- A little skimpy on directions Comment: I've had this rotisserie about 4 months now. I second all the other reviewers' raves about how well chicken, roasts, etc. turn out on this rotisserie. Its also pretty simple to clean up. I've also done a leg of lamb on it and got great results. The whole assembly is simple (collar, which sits on top of your standard-issue 22" weber charcoal grill, spit with 2 sets of prongs to anchor the meat, a motor which slips onto a bracket on the collar, and a spit handle with a counterweight). You build indirect or medium fire on the grate (I use the side baskets and drip pan assembly) put the collar and spit assembly on top of the grill (with the meat skewered and anchored) , put the lid on top of that, start up the motor, and let it go until its done.
The only quibble I've got is the directions. Beyond the usual liability-directed nonsense ('Do not touch hot surfaces; Do not cut or remove the grounding prong from the power cord') the instructions don't tell you much , beyond 'Follow the same non-rotisserie directions for the meat.'-- Also, the counterweight is supposed to be opposite the 'heavy side of the meat' but I've found it difficult to achieve this. Its more practical to try and center the spit through the meat so the weight is as evenly distributed as possible. and, oh yeah, when they tell you to tie, or truss the meat, particularly poultry, be sure to do that so you don't have a wing or leg sticking out where it will get over-cooked.
Final advice: you're going to have to make your own baseline for cooking time. The only way I've been able to do this is to periodically stop the rotisserie and jab a stem thermometer into the meat to check internal temperature. I'm pretty sure everyone's cooking times will be different depending on the size and shape of the poultry or meat, amount of charcoal, and outside temperature.
